On September 22, The Task Force’s Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE) convened the Fourth Annual Meeting of the UN Group of Friends to Eliminate Hepatitis, Growing Diplomacy to Eliminate Hepatitis: A Growing Coalition, at the Yale Club in New York City. This Group of Friends has successfully elevated hepatitis and liver cancer on the global policy agenda—including integration into the Political Declaration on Universal Health Coverage and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) developed in advance of the High-Level Meeting on the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health convened as part of UNGA on September 25—and continues to drive momentum across future resolutions and UN forums. This year’s meeting brought together a distinguished group of leaders from more than 30 countries—including Permanent Representatives to the UN, Ministers of Health and Foreign Affairs, WHO and African Union leadership, regional organizations, and major donors—united in advancing global solidarity to eliminate hepatitis. Participants in this year’s meeting emphasized the urgency of keeping hepatitis at the forefront of global health priorities in the face of international funding disruptions, laying out a pathway for a high-level meeting on hepatitis elimination by 2028.
